Review methodology

Contractor Tool Scout evaluates contractor software with a documented process intended to make recommendations useful, reproducible, and transparent.

Evidence levels

1. Editorial research: official documentation, pricing, terms, support materials, and product demonstrations.
2. Hands-on trial: a trial account used to complete defined workflows.
3. Paid account tested: testing beyond trial limitations.
4. Contractor interview evidence: documented experience from identifiable users, with consent and appropriate disclosure.
5. Mixed evidence: a combination of the above.

Standard workflow test

When access permits, reviewers create a customer, build an estimate, schedule a job, assign or complete the work, add field notes, convert the estimate to an invoice, test payment options, run required reports, export records, and contact support.

Scoring

Scores use a 10-point scale and are weighted by workflow coverage, usability, mobile experience, team management, pricing and value, payments and accounting, reporting, integrations, support, and data portability. A score is not published until the evidence level and reviewer are recorded.

Pricing

Pricing is verified against an official source and displayed with a verification date. Taxes, promotions, payment fees, add-ons, contracts, and regional differences can change the total cost.

Affiliate relationships

Affiliate availability does not determine whether a product is reviewed, included, or recommended. Commercial relationships are disclosed near affiliate links. Partners do not receive advance approval of editorial conclusions.

Corrections

Material corrections should identify what changed and update the verification date. Readers and vendors may submit corrections through the contact page, but evidence is independently reviewed.
